What is a Postpartum Doula?

A postpartum doula is not a baby nurse.  She is an experienced woman who comes to your home and provides educational, emotional, and physical support following the birth or adoption of a new baby.  The postpartum doula does not focus solely on the baby, but rather ensures the well-being of the entire family unit.

Having a postpartum doula can reduce the incidence of postpartum depression, increase the rate of successful breastfeeding, and ease the transition from couple to family.

Every family is different and at D is for Doula, we work to meet the unique needs of your family.  Ideally, we meet with families before they bring home their baby in order to ensure that they are properly prepared for the adventure ahead.   Whether you need a doula for several days, to help overnight or just for a few hours, we can customize a package to meet your family's needs.
